Colts add pair of assistant coaches

The Indianapolis Colts made two additions to the coaching staff, hiring Matt Raich and Jerrod Johnson in assistant roles, the team announced Monday.

Raich will be taking over the role of defensive assistant/assistant defensive line coach. Johnson will be the offensive quality control coach.

Per the release from the team on Monday:

Raich has over 20 years of coaching experience and most recently served as the co-defensive coordinator/linebackers coach for the St. Louis BattleHawks of the XFL. He previously spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals (2018), Detroit Lions (2014-17), Arizona Cardinals (2007-2012) and Pittsburgh Steelers (2002-06).

Johnson was on the Colts’ coaching staff during the 2019 season as part of the NFL’s Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship initiative. In 2017, he participated in the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship with the San Francisco 49ers during training camp and worked with the team’s quarterbacks. From 2015-18, Johnson served on the coaching staff at St. Thomas High School in Houston, Texas. He was the assistant head coach/offensive coordinator for two seasons (2017-18) after originally joining the team as quarterbacks/wide receivers/assistant passing coordinator (2015-16).

Johnson began his coaching career after concluding his playing career in which he spent time with the Dallas Cowboys, Baltimore Ravens, Chicago Bears, Seattle Seahawks, Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles. He also spent time with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League and the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League. Johnson was the number one overall selection of the 2011 UFL Draft. Collegiately, he played football (2006-2010) and basketball (2006) at Texas A&M.
