Season Review
Brissett got off to a hot start for the 2019 season. He threw 14 touchdown passes in the first six games of the season and even though there were some question marks during that span, the Colts were winning so most were content with his play.
Then the second half of the season hit, and he came crashing down to Earth. Brissett’s final eight games (not including Pittsburgh) were tough to watch. He threw just four touchdown passes to three interceptions in that span. His completion percentage dropped to 56.8% while averaging just 186.9 passing yards per game.
It should be noted that Brissett suffered an MCL sprain during the Week 9 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers and his wide receiver corps was decimated. Still, there were moments where it appeared a regression was coming for Brissett.
Offseason Outlook
As of the beginning of the offseason, Brissett is the starter entering 2020. That could change if the Colts find there is a better option in the draft (or even in a veteran), but general manager Chris Ballard said he is the quarterback right now.
Conclusion
Overall, it was a disappointing campaign for Brissett. There was a hope that he would show he is a top-20 quarterback in the league—as the Colts have said—but he failed to live up to that expectation. Now, the Colts face an offseason with several question marks at the quarterback position, and it starts with the future of Brissett.
