Colts 2018 player review: TE Jack Doyle

The Indianapolis Colts tight end room was the league’s best in 2018, and most of the unit’s production came without having it’s most complete player on the field in Jack Doyle.

Even when on the field, Doyle battled injuries. His toughness was never questioned, but a hip injury in the first half and an eventual season-ending kidney injury kept the veteran from seeing the field with consistency.

In all, Doyle played six games in 2018 recording 26 catches for 245 yards and two touchdowns.

The starter when healthy in Frank Reich’s offense, Doyle did everything for the Colts. He was a pass catcher both in-line and in the slot while also serving as one of the best blockers at the position across the entire league.

Doyle missed five games during the first half of the season due to a hip subluxation and then suffered what was a serious kidney injury during the Week 12 game against the Miami Dolphins, which eventually ended his season.

Doyle is not only valuable on the field when he’s healthy for the Colts, but he’s also a leader in the locker room while fitting perfectly into what general manager Chris Ballard wants in his players.

The 29-year-old has one more year left on his contract, and the expectation is for him to bounce back from an injury-riddled 2018 season to lead a talented tight end room.
