Colts 2018 player review: TE Eric Ebron

The Indianapolis Colts believed a change in scenery and a scheme maximizing his talents would bring the best out of tight end Eric Ebron.

Not only were they correct in their evaluation, but Ebron wound up shocking the league en route to a 2018 season that made him look like the No. 10 overall pick that many expected him to be early in his career.

In 16 games (eight starts), Ebron recorded 66 catches for 750 yards and 13 receiving touchdowns, all of which were career-highs.

The Colts used Ebron in a variety of ways throughout his first year with the team. Though he worked more as a TE2 in the six games that Jack Doyle was healthy, Ebron still found ways to produce.

A Pro Bowler for the first time, Ebron took over as the starter in the games Doyle was out, which eventually constituted as most of the second half.

A receiving option first, Ebron was used in-line, in the slot and split out-wide. He was a solid intermediate target for quarterback Andrew Luck while also being a strong red-zone option. His 21 targets were the second-most among tight ends, and his 11 red-zone touchdowns were the most at the position and second-most in the NFL.

Ebron broke out with the Colts during the 2018 season in a massive way and is under contract for one more year where he is expected to be a main part of the offense again.
