Colts 2018 player review: OT Anthony Castonzo

The Indianapolis Colts offensive line made a miraculous turnaround in 2018 being lead by a few new names. Left tackle Anthony Castonzo, however, had a relatively quiet season.

The veteran missed the first five games of the season due to a nagging hamstring injury but upon his return in Week 6, the entire unit seemed to take a full step forward.

While Castonzo is typically one of the more talked about players on the offensive line, his name rarely came up throughout the season. That doesn’t mean he had a bad year though.

In fact, Castonzo was a very solid left tackle for the Colts anchoring the left side during the second half of the season. He struggled at times against the speed rush, but 2018 was one of his finest both in pass protection and in run-blocking.

The veteran leader on the offensive line, Castonzo showed he can excel as a veteran with an extremely strong base, sound technique and consistent hand usage.

While it was a unit’s effort, Castonzo was a big reason why quarterback Andrew Luck was only sacked 18 times, good for the fewest in the NFL.

Castonzo is under contract through the 2019 season and while it might be wise to begin looking for his replacement soon, he has shown he can still play at an above average level anchoring the left side of the offensive line.
