The Indianapolis Colts offensive line seemed to turn its fortunes around overnight with much of the success coming after Mark Glowinski was made the starter at right guard.
Following the scary season-ending injury to starting veteran Matt Slauson in Week 5, Glowinski took over at right guard from Week 6 on, and the Colts offensive line benefitted greatly having him work between center Ryan Kelly and starting right tackle Braden Smith.
In his first season with the Colts, Glowinski appeared in 11 games while making nine starts and being a big part of one of the strongest interiors in the league.
The Colts claimed Glowinski at the end of the 2017 season, which gave him a full offseason of work under the new offensive system brought along by rookie head coach Frank Reich. The change in blocking scheme seems to suit Glowinski perfectly.
The former fourth-round pick was solid in pass protection, but he excelled when it came to run blocking, especially when the Colts asked him to pull and kick out in space. He was also extremely viable in the screen game getting downfield to find defenders at the second and third levels.
Glowinski’s strong and consistent play eventually led to the Colts locking him up to a three-year extension before he could even test the market, which should show how much they value his talent.
The Colts offensive line was arguably the best unit on the team and one of the best units in the NFL. Glowinski played a huge role in that and should be expected to start at right guard during the 2019 season barring any changes.
