Coltness High captains chosen as this year's leaders following rigorous application process

Coltness High has chosen its captains for the year ahead.

Up until last year the school used a voting system but have since changed as some saw it as a popularity contest.

Last year the school decided to go with an application form which was scrutinised by members of the School Leadership Team before individuals were progressed if the application form was good enough. The interview process took a carousel format with around nine or 10 different stations, including external partners getting involved.

This year, due to the impact of the pandemic, the process was scaled down and 12 candidates were chosen.

The stations panellists were interviewed at were: head teacher, depute head teacher, heads of house, principal teachers, teachers and support staff. At the end of the two days worth of interviews all six panels listed their preferences.

All the scores were added and some became the pupil leadership team, the school captains and vice captains.

The captains were chosen as Mia Rae and Chloe Rhinds, with the two vice captains being Jemma Armstrong and Dayna Littlejohn.

Captain Mia Rae said: “I am so pleased to be appointed. It’s a very responsible position and I am really looking forward to working with all the groups within the school and the community to help make Coltness High a great place to learn.”

And other elected captain Chloe Rhinds said: “I am thrilled and honoured. There is still plenty for each member of the school, and the school community, to look forward to this year.”

Coltness head teacher John McGilp spoke highly of the winners, and all the candidates. He said: “Having the opportunity to take part in this process has been superb over the years and this year was no different. The calibre of the candidates was superb and going into the interviews any two of the 12 of them would have made excellent school captains.”
