Colt McCoy remains out for Redskins in Week 1

Washington Redskins quarterback Colt McCoy will remain out of action during the team’s Week 1 game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

While this isn’t a surprise with Case Keenum the starter and Dwayne Haskins behind him, the update is still an interesting one.

ESPN’s John Keim provided the details: “Colt McCoy is out for Sunday. No surprise there. He visited Dr. Anderson again to make sure things progressing OK. Still about strengthening his right leg; his plant leg.”

The last few updates were concerning, as Jay Gruden said McCoy was still dealing with the same injury and that he doesn’t have much of a timetable.

That remains true here, which is unfortunate after the team had hoped his presence could make it a three-man competition under center.

Should McCoy get healthy soon though, it could get interesting if Keenum starts to struggle and Gruden suddenly has another veteran option available instead of throwing his rookie into the fire.

For now, McCoy is still only working in the background as the Redskins go into Week 1 with two quarterbacks.
