Colt McCoy is getting closer to being a factor for Redskins again

The Washington Redskins might finally have a third quarterback in the discussion once Colt McCoy is fully ready.

That should be sooner rather than later. Head coach Jay Gruden still expects McCoy to be inactive this weekend against the New York Giants, per Zach Selby of Redskins.com. But McCoy has been staying behind and putting some extra work in has he continues his comeback.

That’s what Redskins coaches clearly want to see after remaining adamant Case Keenum, not first-round rookie Dwayne Haskins, is still the starter despite poor play and a minor foot injury to Keenum.

Haskins is firmly the backup and even that could apparently change once McCoy gets fully back in the swing of things. Redskins coaches seemed excited to have him in the mix this summer with the other two before a setback came up again.

While Haskins could very well break on to the field this weekend if something happens with Keenum, it should be interesting to watch how the dynamic once again shifts if McCoy is ready to go next week.
