A Dublin mum-of-one who tragically drowned in New Zealand this week has been named locally.

Tributes have been flowing for Eve Parkin who got into difficulty in the waters at Kaikoura on Tuesday night and was found by emergency services on Wednesday morning.

The 56-year-old is understood to be from the southside of Dublin and moved abroad before 2001.

Eve Parkin (Nee McKenna) was a strong swimmer and swam the same stretch of coastline each day in NZ and knew the ocean well according to local reports.

The mum was reported missing in South Bay just before 8pm on Tuesday with search and rescue immediately deployed.

Her body was found in the water at around 11am on Wednesday morning with her death being referred to the coroner.

She and her husband Digby owned a nearby Beach Holiday Park until 2017 and she is sadly missed by her son Sam and beloved husband.

Eve was a 'well-known' member of the community and one local described her as a "vibrant, colourful friend with a great sense of humour and energy".

Her death notice reads: "Passed away unexpectedly in Kaikoura, on Wednesday, January 13, 2021.

"Dearly loved wife of Digby and cherished Mum of Sam.

"Much loved daughter of Margaret and loved sister of Sharon, Jackie, Raymond (deceased), John and David.

"Messages may be sent to 10 Tauhou Place, Kaikoura 7300.

"A celebration of Eve's life will be held at the Carmelite Monastery, 52 Halswell Road, Hoon Hay, Christchurch, at 11.30am, on Monday, January 18, followed by private cremation."
