A man suffered serious injuries after a car caught fire in a series of "colossal explosions".
The victim, in his 50s, was airlifted to hospital after the blasts in Bookham, Surrey, today.
A neighbour has described hearing explosions, and police are investigating.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, Surrey Live reports.
A spokesman from Surrey Police said: "We were called to Lower Shott car park near the High Street in Bookham at 12.40pm this afternoon after a report that a man had been found with serious injuries and a car was on fire.
"A man in his 50s has been taken to St George’s Hospital by air ambulance with serious injuries. His next of kin are aware."
Gerald Coates, who lives in a house opposite the Long Shott shops, he was in his basement but heard “colossal explosions”.
He said: "When they pulled up [the emergency services] they realised someone was in the car, so two or three rushed in and pulled the guy out and literally dragged him.
"They were saying you must get the children away. They were all amazing, they were here in not time at all.”
The cause of fire is currently under investigation.
Surrey Live reporter Alex Boyd, who was at the scene, said: "The car is parked outside some of the shops in Lower Shott.
"It's completely burnt out and sitting within a cordon guarded by a police car.
"It's fully charred and is surrounded by ash."
