Girls dressed in kimono enjoy looking at hanging decorations made of colorful cloth called Hina no Tsurushikazari at the Bunka Koen Hina no Yakata hall in the Inatori area of Higashi-Izu, Shizuoka Prefecture, on Sunday.

Hina no Tsurushikazari are part of a traditional event that has been held since the Edo period (1603-1867), and it is said that the custom originated in people's wishes for girls' healthy growth, making ornaments by hand from pieces of kimono instead of displaying expensive dolls.

The Hina no Tsurushikazari Matsuri festival featuring the decorations will be held until March 31 at five venues including the hall.
