Colorcreative's Find Your People Program Expands To Include Composers

Founded by Issa Rae, Deniese Davis, and Talitha Watkins.

ColorCreative’s Find Your People Program, founded by Issa Rae, Deniese Davis, and Talitha Watkins, is broadening its scope by introducing composers to its talent development initiative. This unique program is not limited to emerging creatives in above-the-line roles but extends its reach to applicants from seven disciplines, including directors, producers, cinematographers, production designers, costume designers, editors, and now composers.

The program forms four separate production crews, with one representative from each field collaborating on projects. These teams work together to pitch to a greenlight committee and receive funding from program partner Canva, known for its visual communication platform, which is integrated into FYPP’s yearlong curriculum-based training workshops.

Canva's global head of consumer marketing, Kristine Segrist, expressed enthusiasm for supporting the Find Your People Program for a second year, highlighting the alignment of values between the two brands. The partnership aims to empower entertainment professionals and promote diverse storytelling through ColorCreative.

Last year’s inaugural cohort, which focused on the writing discipline, will showcase their short films this spring. Notably, two alumni have already secured additional work within ColorCreative’s ecosystem, demonstrating the program's impact on participants' careers.

ColorCreative's President, Talitha Watkins, emphasized the transformative power of storytelling and community building through the FYPP. Watkins expressed pride in the program's ability to shift the narrative of BIPOC communities both onscreen and behind the camera.

Applications for the Find Your People Program are currently open until April 12, inviting aspiring creatives to join this innovative initiative. The program's commitment to fostering diverse talent and promoting inclusive storytelling continues to make a significant impact on the entertainment industry.
