Colorado (3-3) vs. Washington State (3-3) Game Preview
Why Colorado Will Win
Washington State isn’t very good.
It’s okay, and it gave Arizona State a terrific run with the passing game getting going, but it’s on a three-game losing streak thanks to a defense that’s gone bye-bye, too many penalties, and without enough support for the passing game that has to carry everything.
Even with the Cougars throwing for 440 yards or more in every game but the blowout loss to Utah, it hasn’t been enough to avoid fight after fight.
The secondary has been ripped to shreds over the three-game losing streak, allowing quarterbacks to hit close to 70% of their passes for over 1,200 yards and ten touchdowns with a pick.
After getting shut down to a dead stop by Oregon last week, get ready for the Colorado offense to break out again through the air. It’s not that the Buffs didn’t have their chances, but they whiffed when the opportunities were there in the 45-3 loss.
With a healthy group of receivers, the Buffs are going to blow past the 300-yard mark for the third time in the last four games.

Why Washington State Will Win
The Buff defense has a hard time getting off the field.
It’s allowing teams to convert almost half of their third down chances, they’re not generating a lick of pass rush, and they’re not making enough big plays in the backfield. There’s no Wazzu running game to worry about, but give Anthony Gordon time, and there’s a problem.
He had one miserable game against Utah – that D does that to just about everyone – but he bounced back and hit a great Arizona State defense with 466 yards and three touchdowns. He’s keeping the team alive, but he and the O haven’t been great on third downs.
They will be this week.
Colorado has the one of the few defenses playing worse than Washington State’s. It’s been consistently mediocre throughout the season, and the offense needed a few breaks to pick up the slack.
That’s why …

What’s Going To Happen
Washington State will get over the slide.
It took a Nebraska meltdown for the Buffs to get by at home early on, and the 34-31 win over Arizona State was way too tight. Against a Washington State team looking for a sharp performance at home, the Colorado defense won’t be up to the task.
