Colorado (2-1) vs. Arizona State (3-0) Game Preview
Why Arizona State Will Win
The defense is the real deal.
The Michigan State offense started to look like it had things figured out, and it was slowed to a stop by the bend-but-don’t-break Sun Devils.
The ASU O is a work in progress, but it’s not making a whole lot of mistakes, and it’s hitting its deep shots averaging well over 15 yards per completion.
The opportunities will be there against the Colorado secondary that’s been getting hit hard – it’s impressive to be 104th in the nation in pass D with a game against Air Force on the slate – and then the Sun Devil defense will take care of the rest.
Kent State and Sacramento State aren’t any big deal, but even with trip to East Lansing last week with the wild finish, ASU has allowed just one touchdown in each of the first three games. However …
Why Colorado Will Win
Yeah, about that Arizona State offense … it needs a whole lot of work.
It’s been able to do what it needs to do late in games, but it required way, way, way too much effort to get to 3-0. The offensive line isn’t generating a push, the running game isn’t going anywhere, and while freshman QB Jayden Daniels has been fine and isn’t turning the ball over, there just aren’t enough scoring drives.
With only some due respect to Michigan State, Colorado is the first team ASU has played with a loaded group of skill players. The Buff receiving corps has been outstanding, QB Steven Montez has thrown two touchdown passes in each of his first three games, and the O has the explosion that ASU’s is missing.
The Sun Devils need as much help as it can get, but Colorado has is second in the nation in turnover margin with just three giveaways so far.

What’s Going To Happen
Colorado will score more than just seven points on the ASU defense, but it’s going to be a fight.
The Sun Devils offense will work, too, but the Colorado pass rush will own third downs to stall drive after drive. Eno Benjamin will finally get the ground attack going for ASU, Cristian Zendejas will be busy – he’s hit all eight of his field goal attempts so far – it’ll be a great 4-0 start for Herm Edwards before going to Cal.
