Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders Makes NIL Merch Move for Nebraska Rivalry Game Saturday

Colorado and Nebraska. Nebraska and Colorado. Once upon a time, they were sworn enemies. Along with Oklahoma, the Cornhuskers and Buffaloes formed the nerve center of the option-centric Big Eight Conference.

When realignment drove Nebraska and Colorado apart in 2011, the century-old rivalry was temporarily extinguished. However, it has returned in full force the last six years, with the Buffaloes stealing close wins in 2018 (33–28) and 2019 (34–31 in overtime).

The rivalry is one that needs no extra juice. That didn’t stop Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders from providing it Tuesday afternoon.

“Don’t wear red in the facility. We know the history of it. Colorado, we don’t like Nebraska,” Sanders told reporters, adding that he intended to remove red merchandise from his personal website.

The No. 22 Buffaloes and their new coach, Deion Sanders, are currently enjoying life as the biggest story in American sports, fresh off a stunning 45–42 upset of then-No. 17 TCU on Saturday.

The Cornhuskers—who boast their own big-name first-year coach in Matt Rhule—are licking their wounds after a 13–10 loss to Minnesota in their opener. An unranked Nebraska team last beat a ranked Colorado team on Nov. 1, 1969, when the Cornhuskers topped the No. 18 Buffaloes 20–7 in Lincoln.
