Colonel Tom Moore rumoured to star in iconic John Lewis Christmas advert

John Lewis bosses have reportedly set their sights on featuring Colonel Tom Moore in their famous Christmas advert.

The war veteran, 100, has become an inspiration for the nation after raising a whopping £33 million in support of the NHS.

The company that is tasked with creating the famous festive advert has reportedly thrown about ideas regarding how they could feature the incredible veteran.

The adverts, which are usually tear-jerkers, come with a heartwarming festive message and cost millions to produce every year.

A source recently explained to The Sun that the theme of 'coming together' that Tom triumphs is something that they're keen to promote.

“Tom’s fundraising touched the nation and going forward he will remain a figurehead of what was good during the pandemic," the insider explained.

“For many Tom became totally unifying and those working on the campaign for John Lewis ’ next advert want to join in that celebration.

“The coming together of the nation during this unprecedented crisis is one of the theme’s being explored and of course Tom is at the heart of that.

With seven months left before the new advert graces our TV screens, the source admitted that it was still early days.

They added: “It’s very early stages and the inclusion of Tom’s incredible record is very much still just ideas being pitched around.

“But after tapping into the public’s psyche it seems Tom is very much going to be man of the moment for a long time to come.”

The national treasure, who celebrated his 100th birthday on April 30, has been awarded a number of honours thanks to his impressive fundraising.

As well as becoming an honorary Colonel, he's been given a golden Blue Peter badge and received over 150,000 birthday cards.

He's also being honoured with a Spitfire and Hurricane fly-over and this week it was revealed that he would receive a knighthood.

Should Colonel Tom Moore find time in his busy schedule to squeeze in a John Lewis advert, the veteran would join the likes of Elton John who has starred in a previous advert.

Other famous contributors to the John Lewis advert include Lily Allen, Ellie Goulding and Tom Odell - who have all recorded tracks for the magical advert.
