Colonel Porter's stuffed bear Herbert stolen but you can return him with 'no questions asked'

A Newcastle bar is appealing for the safe return of its stuffed brown bear, Herbert, after he was allegedly swiped by customers on Saturday night.

Colonel Porter's Emporium, in Dean Street, says its beloved bear was taken on Saturday February 12.

Staff are pouring over CCTV in a bid to identify the two men who were seen carrying Herbert towards the Quayside on Saturday.

But the bar is throwing a bone to the pair who taxed the taxidermy bear, by offering them the chance to return Herbert "with no questions asked" and without police involvement.

Colonel Porter's says Herbert is one of its most popular "exhibits" and is named in honour of Colonel James Herbert Porter, the man who created Newcastle Brown Ale, who the bar is also named after.

Bar staff described the bear as "a stalwart at the pub since it opened its doors and a great talking point".

Colonel Porter's adds: "Anyone who knows the whereabouts of the bear can contact Col Porter’s on 0191 261 7600 or can return it to the bar, with no questions asked."
