Colombia confirm Yerry Mina decision after Everton defender missed Brighton win

Colombia have confirmed that Yerry Mina will not join up with the national team over the course of the international break.

The Everton defender was a notable absentee from the squad on Saturday afternoon as the Blues secured a 2-0 win away to Brighton at the Amex Stadium.

Goals in either half from Demarai Gray and Dominic Calvert-Lewin were enough to secure all three points for Rafa Benitez's side, with Mason Holgate stepping up to replace Mina from the previous league game against Leeds.

Everton later confirmed that Mina had a slight knock which would rule him out of the match.

And now the Colombia national team have confirmed that, following advice from the Blues medical team, the centre-back will not be involved with them over the course of the coming international break.

A statement from the organisation read: "The coaching staff of the Colombia Men's Senior Team reports that the players Yerry Mina and Luis Fernando Muriel have been called off for the triple date of the qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar. 2022.

"These decisions were made based on the reports provided by the medical departments of the Everton and Atalanta clubs to the doctors of the Colombian National Team.

"We wish Yerry Mina and Luis Fernando Muriel a speedy recovery, hoping that they will soon return."

Colombia are due to face Bolivia, Paraguay and Chile over the course of the break, but will do so without the Blues centre-back.

Mina will continue his recovery on Merseyside, with Everton due to face Burnley and Aston Villa when domestic football returns in mid-September.
