Colmans Seafood Temple launches delivery service and fans could not be more excited

One of the North East's favourite chippies is reopening its restaurant for takeways next week.

The award-winning Colmans in South Shields, which is famed for its fish and chips, is now inviting customers to place orders at its restaurant for fishy favourites and even tipples from the bar.

Colmans Seafood Temple - a fish and chip restaurant which also has a cocktail and oyster bar - is to reopen from Monday when available slots will go live - via its new online click and collect and home delivery service - for orders later in the week.

On offer will be traditional classics and the most popular restaurant dishes as well as a selection of bar drinks.

Customers will be able to preorder from Monday for the service which will run between noon and 7.30pm from Friday to Sunday and one eager fan wrote on its Facebook page: "Counting down the days for the curry!"

All orders for restaurant dishes must be placed online although it will be taking orders from a limited menu for 'walk-ins' going to the restaurant's side hatch.

Its fans have been very excited about the upcoming opening, with one follower on its Facebook page saying: "The sooner the better."

The restaurant had asked what people would like to see on the menu and replies included oysters, fish curry, garlic prawns and scampi.

Karen Baker wrote: "Seafood mixed grill, one of best meals I’ve had"; Sharon Barnes said: "Scampi cooked in white wine cream sauce with mushrooms on a bed of rice. Please!" and Joan Snaith added: "Fish chowder would be lovely."

Colmans' sister venue, the original takeaway in Ocean Road, also invites walk-in orders and offers click and collect but will not be doing deliveries.

The local company has netted lots of awards over the years including Colmans Seafood Temple being named as one of the UK's top 10 best fish and chip restaurants in the Fry Magazine awards and the takeaway picked as one of the UK’s top 50 best fish and chip takeaways.

It also has been included in the Good Food Guide and The Times newspaper’s 30 Best Fish and Chip Shops in the UK, and been picked as BBC’s Countryfile magazine’s best UK Fish and Chip Shop.
