Colman Domingo Stuns as the Only Latino Met Gala Co-Host — Here's What to Know

What has Colman Domingo's extensive career been like?

This year's Met Gala comes with a powerful new theme: a celebration of how Black men have used fashion as a bold tool of self-expression. It's a shift from recent years, which spotlighted female-led productions, and the 2025 host lineup reflects that evolution. The evening's co-hosts are A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, Lewis Hamilton, LeBron James — and Colman Domingo.

Domingo stands out not just for his résumé — which includes multiple Oscar nominations — but for his cultural impact. The star is the only Latino co-host this year, following in the footsteps of 2024 icons Bad Bunny and Jennifer Lopez, who brought Latinx flair to the museum steps just a year ago.

A red carpet favorite, Domingo has carved out a space for himself as one of Hollywood's best-dressed men, regularly gracing top fashion lists with daring, elegant looks that blend heritage and high fashion.

And how did the co-hosts pitch their outfits to Anna Wintour, the legendary Vogue editor behind the Gala's curation? According to reports, Lewis Hamilton and LeBron James presented designs. Pharrell simply said she'd be "delighted." Domingo? He sent a single photo. Simple. Confident. Iconic.

Who is Colman Domingo?

The actor, born to an African American mother with Nigerian roots and a Belizean father of Guatemalan descent, brings more than just style to the Met — he represents a richly layered identity and a deep commitment to representation in the arts.

While fans love Pedro Pascal for being "Hollywood's nicest guy," Domingo is just as beloved — and just as accomplished. The star of 'Euphoria' and 'The Color Purple' is now sharing the screen with Tina Fey and Steve Carell in the upcoming Netflix series 'Four Seasons.'

To understand who Colman Domingo is, we must go back several decades. Although many first recognized him for his role as Ali in the HBO series "Euphoria," that in no way marks the beginning of the successful career the Afro-Latino heartthrob has built over the years.

Before sharing the screen with superstar Zendaya in 'Euphoria', Domingo was a renowned actor on Broadway.

Colman spent his childhood in Philadelphia, where he was born on November 28, 1969. After graduating from high school, he began his studies at Temple University, until he decided to move to San Francisco. It was there that he would begin his journey to becoming an actor and much more.

In an interview with Vanity Fair magazine, Domingo confesses that some of his first jobs were as an actor in small productions of Shakespeare plays, although it seems incredible, he has done everything, even being part of a circus, where he learned to do various acrobatics.

He finally made it to Broadway, where his role in the musical The Scottsboro Boys earned him a Tony nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical in 2010. Two years later, he was selected to be part of the cast of the film 'Lincoln', alongside great figures such as the historical Daniel Day-Lewis.

Although Colman had been playing a supporting role, this didn't stop him from attracting the attention of directors and producers, who quickly approached him about working with him. He began working in productions such as "Red Hook Summer, " "The Butler," "Selma," and "Time Out of Mind," among others, always as a supporting actor.

His first taste of fame came in 2015 when he was announced as part of the series "Fear the Walking Dead." Colman began his adventure in this franchise as a recurring character, although over time he became one of the main characters in the story. Thanks to this experience, he not only gained recognition but also became the first actor in the franchise to direct an episode.

From that moment on, the actor's career, born to a Belizean father and Guatemalan family, soared, achieving global acclaim with his role as Ali in the television phenomenon "Euphoria." In this new role, Colman played a former drug addict who would later become the godfather of Zendaya's protagonist.

The superstar 's performance was impeccable, even earning him the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Already established as one of the most accomplished actors in Hollywood today, Domingo appeared in films such as "Candyman," the 2023 musical adaptation of "The Color Purple," and "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts," among others.

At the 2024 Academy Awards, he was nominated for Best Leading Actor for his role in "Rustin," produced by Michelle and Barack Obama, in which he portrays gay civil rights activist Bayard Rustin.

This role meant a lot to Domingo's career, not only for the professional recognition, but also for his personal recognition, as he is openly gay and has been married to film producer Raúl Domingo since 2014.

The nomination marked a milestone in history, as Domingo became the first Afro-Latino to be nominated for an Oscar for best actor, as well as the second openly gay man to be nominated for bringing to life a gay character.

With his latest work, not only as a lead actor but also as a producer, Colman is expected to repeat his feat and receive another Oscar nomination for the film 'Sing Sing'.

After a long career that took a long time to gain recognition, the star has proven that perseverance is the key to success. And it's undoubtedly a triumph, as he is now positioned among the most important actors in the world of cinema.
