Colm O'Rourke believes it's time to get rid of the 'provincial systems'

Former Meath star Colm O'Rourke has called for the GAA to bin the provincial championships in their current guise.

Yesterday's Leinster SFC draw pitted O'Rourke's Meath against the winner of a Wexford v Wicklow first round clash.

Meath are the last county to defeat Dublin in Leinster, with a stunning five-goal performance condemning the Dubs to their only provincial loss in the past 15 years in the 2010 semi-finals.

And O'Rourke feels that the summer showcase does little good for counties in Leinster, as well as Kerry-dominated Munster.

“For me, a big problem is the provincial championships,” O'Rourke told The Irish Daily Star.

“At this stage of my life, I’d like a radical transformation of the whole system and get rid of the provincial systems.

“I don’t think they are doing anything for Leinster or Munster, where you have Kerry and Dublin dominating almost for the last 130 years.

"To me that needs to change."
