Colm Cooper raises €11,000 for ‘Do it for Dan’ campaign by selling 2006 All-Ireland final boots

Colm Cooper has raised €11,000 for the ‘Do it for Dan’ campaign after auctioning off the boots he wore in the 2006 All-Ireland football final.

The Kerry legend revealed someone in New York purchased the boots along with a signed 2013 All-Star jersey.

He tweeted: "Delighted to say the items have been purchased for €11k. The boots are off to New York!

"Also want to a say a huge thank you to some bidders who donated privately. Amazing generosity.

"Remember Dan’s journey continues and you can still donate with the link below."

The Kingdom defeated Mayo in the 2006 decider to win the Sam Maguire.

The Do It For Dan campaign is raising funds for one-year-old Dan Donoher, who was diagnosed with a severe type 1 SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy) condition in December.

The extremely rare and progressive condition leads to the loss of motor neurons that control muscle movement.

Dan requires ventilator support and such is the youngster's weakness, his parents have told that "a common cold could end Dan's life".

There was previously no cure for the condition, but a new treatment called Zolgensma has become available in American that could be life-saving for the toddler.

His parents, who both played inter-county football for Laois, are hoping to raise enough money to bring him to the US for life-saving treatment.

They have now raised over half of their €2 million target. If you would like to donate, you can do so on GoFundMe here.
