Collingwood fan Jeffrey 'Joffa' Corfe charged with historical child sex offences

Collingwood cheer squad identity Jeffrey 'Joffa' Corfe has been charged with historical child sexual abuse.

Police said the Magpies super-fan was arrested in Melbourne earlier this month and charged with two counts of sexual penetration of a child under the age of 16.

The charges relate to an incident in Coburg in 2005.

Mr Corfe, 60, has been bailed to face Melbourne Magistrate's Court on July 30.

His arrest followed an investigation launched last year by the Fawkner Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team.

In a statement, the club said "Collingwood condemns without qualification inappropriate conduct of any kind but cannot, and will not, comment on matters before the courts."

Mr Corfe is known as one of Collingwood's most passionate fans and led the club's cheer squad for many years.

Earlier this year, he was criticised by the club over comments he made about Indian aged care workers.

In response to the final report of the aged care royal commission, Mr Corfe tweeted: "Get rid of all Indian workers in aged care might be a start."

The controversy came just weeks after an independent review found Collingwood Football Club guilty of systemic racism.
