College lecturer who died after being hit by a train is named

A man who died after being hit by a train has been named.

Richard Wilson, who worked as a college lecturer, died after the incident at Dronfield train station on Friday, February 19.

An inquest into the death of the 48-year-old, who was from Dronfield , was opened at Chesterfield Coroner's Court on Tuesday, February 23, Derbyshire Live reports.

Mr Peter Nieto, area coroner for Derby and Derbyshire, said the train involved had been travelling from Nottingham to Liverpool and was making its way into Sheffield at the time of the incident. The incident affected services to and from Nottingham.

He added there were no other witnesses apart from the driver of train.

The inquest was adjourned until a later date while further enquiries are carried out.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said at the time: "British Transport Police were called to Dronfield railway station at 10.30am this morning (19 February) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers are working to identify the deceased and inform their next of kin.

"This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
