Before we get started, as a public service announcement, I have been ridiculously stupid off on my weeknight picks this week. A few weren’t my fault – really, Buffalo, REALLY?! A few just went the wrong way – ALL the North Carolina kicker had to do was miss in regulation – and there was a whiff or two – thanks, Toledo.
So keep that in mind on these first two picks …
Can Louisiana Tech’s offense get hot? I’m sort of under the belief that 1) yes, the Bulldogs haven’t played anyone, but 2) they’re that good offensively and now they get to prove it. Marshall is at home, but the line has moved up to Herd -6.5. That’s a lot to give the Tech offense. The 54.5 seems low, too.

Fresno State – San Diego State is almost certainly going to be 24-17. The hard part is guessing which way it goes, since all San Diego State games seem like they’re around the 24-17 range. The Aztec O is SO bad, but it’s down to a PICK in some places? With that SDSU D at home? Thanks.

ACC Betting Advice, Final Thoughts
If you’re really that weird and want in on the Alabama State – Florida State game, BetMGM does have it at Noles -41.5. This is for bowl eligibility or FSU, so it’s going to try and it should be up big in the first half, and then empty the bench in a hurry. As FCS paycheck games go, be warned, the Hornets aren’t that bad.

Of course Clemson is going to roll past Wake Forest. Of course there won’t be that much drama, and of course the team is going to try to make a statement, especially on Senior Day. The Tigers get two weeks off after this, but just be careful here. The Demon Deacons won’t win, but the world is giving the 13th-best offense in America – granted, without WR Sage Surratt – 34.5 points. It’s a not-that-crazy risk to take.

You’re teasing me, aren’t you? You’re mocking an exhausted man who hasn’t slept for over two months by telling me and the fine people reading this that Virginia Tech is only giving up six points to Georgia Tech? I know the Yellow Jackets are playing better, but you could make it 16 and I might not blink.

Don’t think hard here. Duke bad, Syracuse really bad. The 10 seems like a lot for a struggling Blue Devil team to be giving away to anyone right now. but the Orange are winless in a miserable ACC for a reason.

Am I late to the party here? Have I missed the moment when NC State did anything this year to suggest that it should be just a +4 against any team on the verge of bowl eligibility? The Pack will make it a fight against Louisville, but this is a bad State team.

I’ll flat-out admit that this is a dumb reason for sort of liking a team, but Les Miles is going back to Oklahoma State, where he coached before going to LSU. The Jayhawks should get that O going against a bad Oklahoma State D in what should be a firefight. Liking the over on the 67.5, and thanks for giving Kansas 17.5.

Stay the hell away from TCU-Texas Tech. This is about as coin-flipy as it gets. TCU is better, but it’s not playing like it. Texas Tech is at home, it’s getting three points, so fiiiiiine … go with the Red Raiders if you have to play this.

It would be SO like Texas to rise up at Iowa State and blast out a 37-13 performance, just to tick me off. I know the Longhorns are mediocre, and I know this might be about brand name instead of substance, but it’s not in my DNA to take Iowa State -7 over the Texas Longhorns.

I’ve warned you about this before – I can’t get West Virginia right this year. I’ve erred time and time and time again on the idea that it was due, and then when I abandoned ship, it decided to show up against Baylor. But bad gonna bad … Kansas State -14 is fine. See if it might go down a half a point before gametime.

There’s an outside chance that Oklahoma is like one of those superhero movies that everyone thinks is awesome because of all the pops and explosions, but actually sort of sucks. It’s played three decent teams, and lost to one (Kansas State), just got by another (Texas), and needed to hang on for dear life to beat the other (Iowa State). Is Baylor this week’s Minnesota? The world is giving us 10.5 points to find out.

Is Penn State really that good? The offense hasn’t really had to do too much, and it got way, way overloved for a tough win over Michigan and victories over mediocre Iowa and Michigan State teams. Giving Indiana 14.5 is a lot, but it hasn’t really beaten anyone all that great. If the Nittany Lions had won last week I’d have gone IU and the points, but go light here with the favorite.

Be careful of the Wisconsin-Nebraska line. In theory, on paper, and in reality, the Badgers should come out and rip the Huskers to shreds. However, Adrian Martinez and the passing game might come up with just enough to be annoying late – sort of like Iowa was able to do last week in Camp Randall. Plus, the Badgers haven’t been great on the road since opening up at USF. Sheepishly go with the Huskers getting 14.5, but if that drops to 13ish or so, pounce on Bucky.

Michigan is playing well, and Michigan State isn’t. The Wolverines should win by more than two touchdowns, and if it doesn’t, chalk it up the rivalry aspect, for whatever that means. The Spartans should keep this close for a while, but they won’t have the O to keep up for a full four quarters.

UGHHHHHHHH. Really, you’re going to make me pick Northwestern to score 41, much less win by that much, or more? You should be able to build a house right now banking on the Wildcats to suck offensively, but UMass is just that bad. It goes against everything I believe in to give away 41 to anyone, but after a year with absolutely no fun, don’t be shocked if the Wildcats keep pouring it on.

I do realize I’m all over the map here. In the 10 Best Picks Against The Spread, I told you to never, ever, ever give away 53 points if someone wants to give them to you. But Rutgers isn’t going to score, and if it does, it’s not scoring more than ten points. When in doubt, and if you’re wavering, again … if someone wants to give you 53 points …

Enough with the waffling. Minnesota is good, and Iowa doesn’t have an offense. Minnesota wins close games, and Iowa isn’t good at that. With all of that said, I’ve picked against the Gophers over and over and over again, and this is the type of game past Iowa teams seem to win.

Just when we all think Stanford is going to stink, it doesn’t. Just when we all think Stanford is due for something solid, it doesn’t. However, Washington State has been consistently mediocre, while the Cardinal has a pattern of going win-loss-win-loss … and it’s due for a win. Stanford is getting 11.5 points, and with its running game, it might just win outright.

Jayden Daniels is back at quarterback for Arizona State, and that’s moved the line from a PICK to Sun Devils -2.5 at Oregon State. The Sun Devil defense has started to struggle, the Beavers are at home, and they’re not going to have another clunker like they just came up with against Washington. The passing game will work.

Any line movement might matter for Arizona – Oregon, even if it’s at Ducks -27.5. The Wildcat defense is a hot mess, but the Ducks have had way too many close battles for a team this good. Stay away from this – Arizona is too flaky – but if you must, assume Oregon’s O is going to go off.

The USC-Cal line hasn’t moved yet – get there quickly. It started at USC -4, moved up to 6.5, and has sat there even though Cal QB Chase Garbers might play after being banged up for the last several games. Even if it’s Devon Modster under center, there are plenty of reasons to like the Bears. The defense is still a killer, USC isn’t great on the road, and it’s Senior Day.

Do you trust Bo Nix more in a tight game, or Jake Fromm? From has thrown three picks this year, and they all came in one game. Nix can’t hit 45% of his passes against the better teams on the schedule. Auburn is really, really good, and it could absolutely pull this off by more than -3 in what should be a low-scoring tight battle, but Georgia is terrific. It’s just not fun.

If you have to do the Kentucky-Vanderbilt game, go with a Wildcat team that doesn’t score, but should have enough defense to shut down a miserable Commodore attack. The line is dead-on right at UK -10, but you can probably get it at 9.5. Considering the under on the 41.5 is probably the right call, giving away ten points is a lot.

Does this LSU team look or play like a team that’s about to let down after winning a game like it just did? Even if it is, the Ole Miss secondary is next-level bad and is about to be picked apart. The pass defense is the worst in the SEC – allowing 274 yards per game – and last time I checked, that Joe Burrow guy is pretty good. The only concern is the Ole Miss running game curveball – the Rich Rodriguez, on the right day, can go off.

Can South Carolina go South Carolina and come up with a big performance out of nowhere just as everyone assumes it’s about to get blown out? Remember, Texas A&M has lost to Clemson, Alabama and Auburn – it’s been forgotten about because it lost to three excellent teams. South Carolina isn’t an excellent team
