Just how much do you believe in the Wake Forest quarterback situation? No matter how Jamie Newman is feeling, the Demon Deacons are far better than NC State, but they also play a whole lot of games close. The half a point matters here going from Wake Forest -7 to 7.5.

Warning … I can’t get Notre Dame right. I got the Bowling Green wipeout, but just when I think it’s going to struggle – Virginia game – it turns it on. Just when I think it’s about to make a move – Michigan – it doesn’t show up. This week, though, watch out for a better-than-you-think Virginia Tech team. That 17.5 is a big number that might grow by gametime. Think Notre Dame-USC here in terms of the dog covering late. I actually got that one right.

Miami vs. Florida State is always going to be magical. It doesn’t matter if the teams stink – it’s Miami vs. Florida State. 1987 Canes over FSU – highlighted by the Steve Walsh pass to Michael Irvin – might be my favorite non-bowl game ever. These two are fighting for their lives. It’ll be intense, it’ll be hard-hitting, and you’re absolutely (bleep)ing insane if you think you can read Miami right at this point in the year. If you have to, FSU -3 – it went down from 6.5 – is a fair line.

If you’ve read this piece before, you’ve hopefully jumped on board with the idea that you always take the underdog when it’s getting 45 points or more. If one team gets off the bus up 45-0, say thank you. There are too many things that can go wrong for the favorite to hit that number. With that in mind, in the Dabo era, Clemson absolutely annihilates FCS teams. However, it can be a 52-7 wipeout, and it won’t cover the 46.5 against Wofford.

Pitt plays every game close – or, at least it seems to – no matter what. There’s no Panther offense, the defense wins games, and the team just finds a way to keep both sides alive. LOVE the under on the 43.5 when Pitt takes on Georgia Tech, and if you can still get the Panthers at 7.5, do it fast because it’s going to rise.

Virginia, I’ve loved you all year long. I’ve been your biggest champion. I’ve assumed you’d be the one to rise up and take the Coastal, and yet you just don’t have the explosive plays on offense. This hurts … North Carolina, now that it’s just 1.5 after being 2.5 – is the better play at home.

Kansas might be the most annoying team to handicap this season. Just when you think there’s something there …. phhhhfffffffffffffhhht. The air goes out of the balloon. Don’t get too hung up in the rivalry aspect of the Jayhawks’ game against Kansas State. As long as the Wildcats can control the clock and do that they do, they should be fine on the road. WIth that said, no argument here if you’re like KU at home to be special, partially because of the rivalry.

Now we actually think Oklahoma State is going to win. This program seems to do a better job when it’s flying under the radar, but now that it’s just a 2.5-point favorite after hanging out around 5.5, it’s a good value. Also, hopefully you got in before the total went up. It’s been up and down like a yo-yo, but 59 might still be at least ten points too light.

Never get out of the boat … absolutely (bleep) right. I went against the boat rowers last week thinking Minnesota was due to get tagged and Maryland was due for something special. Maryland, I’ve now mega-whiffed on you three times now – Temple, Penn State, Minnesota. Don’t do me dirty – don’t get good this weekend. I hate that it’s now up to Michigan -21.5 after starting out at 19.5, but fine … stick with the beatdown call.

Okay, forgive me. When I do a preview and predict the final score, I make it a point to not look at the line until after it’s written. Unless the score is right on the line – it’s no fun to predict a push – I don’t change it. I want to change my call on Illinois not winning by more than 20.5 against Rutgers, but never go against your first answer. Screw it … it’s absolutely correct. Rutgers will show this week that it can score on someone other than Liberty. However, you’re insane if you go with the over on the 49.

The last time Club Dub lost two in a row in Seattle? 2008, when the program went 0-12. I can’t do it. Utah is playing too well, too tight, and too tough. The Huskies don’t seem figure out how to whiff time and again at making the big play in a key moment.

Here’s why the moronic “never mess with a streak” thing matters. If you go against the trend, and you’re wrong, it hurts double-much. If you go with it and you’re wrong, okay, fine. It was a good wave to ride.
USC doesn’t seem to like losing in Los Angeles this year. It’s partly because the team is pretty good, and it’s partly because it just seems to play better. Oregon is probably one of the four best teams in college football, and it’s just not playing like it. If the team that showed up against Washington State last week makes the trip to the Coliseum, it’s going to lose.

Are we all just supposed to think UCLA is good now? Are we all supposed to assume that Joshua Kelley might just carry this team to a bowl game? Normally, the idea of Texas A&M giving away 38.5 to UTSA would be scary, but it has to win this. If it doesn’t, it’s playing with fire with South Carolina coming into town in two weeks. Lose that, and there’s Georgia and LSU on the road to win one game for bowl eligibility. The Roadrunners just don’t score enough to have any shot at winning, but be careful. The Aggies should come out hot, get up big, and then ease up. That 38.5 is a big number.

Keep an eye on the Mississippi State-Arkansas line before the 4 pm ET kickoff. It’s right now at MSU -7.5, but that should probably go up by at least a point. Forgetting how bad the Hogs looked against Auburn and Alabama over the last two weeks, they managed to keep it close in the previous three losses. MSU doesn’t score enough to be comfy with asking it to win by 8.

You ever get a weird feeling like a team could use a bit of a nap? Auburn is coming off of three straight road games against Florida, Arkansas and LSU, and it can’t but help but be looking ahead to the week off, and then Georgia, and then Alabama a month from now. It’s not going to drop the home date to Ole Miss, but it might not be quite as sharp as it needs to be for a full four quarters to win by three touchdowns.

I know UAB hasn’t beaten anyone, I know Tennessee is better now, and I know it just stomped all over South Carolina and beat Mississippi State a few weeks ago. South Carolina might have been rocked by Tennessee last week, but it’s not going to be that miserable two games in a row. The Vanderbilt win over Missouri was an aberration, and the public thinks the same way, taking the line up from USC -14.5 to 15.5. That matters. This is going to be a low-scoring game, and that’s a lot of points if the under comes in on the 51.5.

It’s been my party line all week – I really, really, really just don’t know on Florida-Georgia, or Georgia-Florida, if you prefer. Georgia is the better team, it’s effective despite not being splashy, and it might just D up and be ready to make a massive statement at just the right time.
But Florida’s defense is getting healthy again. The offense doesn’t seem to be fazed by anything, and it gets a raw deal perception-wise because Kyle Trask isn’t Joe Burrow, or Tua Tagovailoa, or Jake Fromm.
If you love Georgia here, go with it. However, in a game that appears to be so dead even in so many ways, take the team that’s getting the 6.5 points.
