College Football 26 Update Just Made Position Changes Easier in Dynasty Mode

College Football 26 is an incredibly enjoyable experience for the most part. Not only is it one of the more fundamentally sound sports titles EA has put out in the last few years, but it is an incredibly deep experience that requires a lot more knowledge than the casual sports gamer might possess, especially when it comes to positioning. Be it gadget or situational defensive positions, it’s a lot to learn. But, upon learning the ins and outs of these niche terms, one might notice that positional changes don’t offer as much freedom as one may prefer. But the game’s first title update promises to change that!

After a previous update that might’ve broken things that didn’t need fixing, College Football 26 will be receiving its first big title update of its cycle tomorrow, July 24. And while there are a ton of things EA promises to address, we’ll be focusing strictly on position changes and how they’ve become easier in Dynasty Mode.

The Newest College Football 26 Update Has Made Position Changes Easier

Anyone who’s been playing College Football 26 can tell you that switching a player’s position isn’t exactly ideal, even if the player you’re attempting to switch is perfectly suited for the role, as playing a player out of position results in steep penalties to that player’s attributes. But, EA has decided to throw the community a bone and give players a bit more freedom when it comes to where they’re lining up on the gridiron. This is done by essentially grouping a few different roles and giving players de facto secondary positions.

These new position groups include the following:

  • Running Backs: Fullback (FB), Halfback (RB)
  • Offensive Line: Left Tackle (LT), Left Guard (LG), Center (C), Right Guard (RG), Right Tackle (RT)
  • Defensive Line: Left Edge (LEDG), Right Edge (REDG), Defensive Tackle (DT)
  • Linebackers: Strong-side (SAM), Middle (MIKE), Weak-side (WILL)
  • Defensive Backs: Cornerback (CB), Free Safety (FS), Strong Safety (SS)
  • Specialists: Kicker (K), Punter (P)

Additionally, ATH (Athlete) recruits — the do-it-all prospects often found in high school reports — can now be assigned an initial position without any penalties to their skill cap, offering flexibility when it comes to building out your program. But that’s not the only change. Following the title update, a player’s Development Trait and year in school now play a bigger role in determining how their skill caps adapt to new positions.

To put it simply, CFB 26 Dynasty mode players now have more agency when it comes to recruitment and playing recruits to their strengths as opposed to whatever might be plotted for them.

This update has been available for the past week in Online Dynasty saves, but is now just arriving for Offline Dynasty. We look forward to playing this new update and will be sure to keep you all in the loop.
