Fernando Tatis Sr. is the owner of one of the rarest feats in baseball history, being the only player to ever hit two grand slams in one inning of a major league game. On Sunday, one college player successfully joined Tatis in pulling that feat off, etching his name in history.
Liam McFadden-Ackman, a junior for Northern Kentucky, hit two grand slams in the first inning of the Norse’s game against Western Michigan. After Western Michigan scored a run in the top of the first, McFadden-Ackman opened the Norse’s scoring with his first grand slam, then added four more RBIs later in the inning.
McFadden-Ackman subsequently added a single, double and triple to complete the cycle. He finished the game 5-for-6 with four runs and 10 RBIs.
Northern Kentucky scored 14 runs in the first inning and went on to defeat Western Michigan, 27-4. It capped the Norse’s three-game sweep of the Broncos over the weekend.
This season, McFadden-Ackman has played in seven games and already has hit four home runs—after totaling five homers in 51 games last year. The designated hitter only started one game this weekend, the series finale, and he made the most of his chance.
