Good knitwear is as integral to a happy winter as country walks, long pub lunches and a functioning boiler.
In fact, the prospect of pulling on a really great, cosy knit can be enough to coax me from the warmth of the sheets and out into a dark, frosty morning.
And while I shall most certainly be putting last winter’s brightly coloured chunky crew necks and cashmere polo necks back into circulation, there’s a new neckline I predict will be the 'It Knit' of winter 2019.
And it comes with a collar.
The trend was kicked off by New York brand Khaite, who made a knit of such perfectly pointy collared proportions that it was soon snapped up by the fashion set and spotted all over the streets at fashion month.
At £565 (shop it here), the Khaite knit is definitely an investment piece.
I was hesitantly adding its collared cashmere loveliness to my basket when I noticed Lindsay Holland (@ropesofholland) wearing a really lovely rib knit version of the same style from French Connection, which comes in at a much more winter holiday fund-friendly £85 (shop it here).
Best worn slightly loose-fitting and semi-tucked into leather trousers (set to be another winter 2019 smash hit), the collared knit gives a look that’s simultaneously composed and cool.
So whether you’re into superfine Merino wool, cuddly cashmere or chunkier weaves, make this winter’s knit-vestment hot about the collar.
