Collaboration and inspiration are the keys to innovation

What helps entrepreneurs with big ideas realise their dream and become the next big thing in business? The majority of the time the answer is other entrepreneurs.

Gone are the days where interacting and collaborating with other businesses or like-minded people was seen as giving away commercial secrets.

If you've spent some time in the thriving technology start-up scene in east London you'll have found entrepreneurs, all with a similar aspiration, working together in a hive of collaboration and creativity.

This has helped propel the UK to being a country synonymous with innovative start-ups that have become exceptionally successful. Huddle, Moo and TweetDeck are just a few of the recent successes and showcase some of the cutting edge work UK entrepreneurs have delivered as a result of working together.

This commitment to collaboration and sharing ideas is what Virgin Media Pioneers has set out to accomplish. By nurturing the next batch of Richard Bransons with an engaged support network, access to those that have been there and done it before and a platform for everyone to share ideas, the Pioneers programme is helping to inspire people to pursue their business dreams.

And it's the fruition of these dreams that everyone, including the government is relying on.

In light of the recent budget, we've seen the spotlight shine on technology in the UK and aspirations of creating the technology hub of Europe in our back garden are now within reach.

With this shift of focus, the government's involvement in carving out a process for the UK's newest innovators is now more important than ever.

It's collaboration that will make sure the UK gives its next enterprises the right tools and infrastructure to be able to grow and compete on the global playing field.

It's critical that technology vendors and the public sector work together to provide the best start and environment for those looking to be great. Who knows, we may have the next Instagram in our midst.

But being innovative is tough, so let's be sure we're offering all that is needed for these pioneers to bring their ideas to life.
