Colin Kaepernick's national-anthem protest continues in North Carolina

CHARLOTTE, N.C. _ Colin Kaepernick's national-anthem protest continued Sunday in the 49ers' first regular-season road game, a visit to the reigning NFC-champion Carolina Panthers.

Kaepernick knelt next to safety Eric Reid for the third consecutive game, something they started doing together in the exhibition finale at San Diego and in Monday night's regular-season opener at Levi's Stadium.

Rashard Robinson and Jaquiski Tartt joined fellow defensive back Antoine Bethea and linebacker Eli Harold in raising their fists during the anthem while following Kaepernick's lead to seek racial equality across America. Wide receiver Quinton Patton bowed his head throughout the anthem while standing by the 49ers bench.

A few Panthers fans raised their middle finger toward Kaepernick as he headed into the halftime locker room with his teammates.

All the Panthers stood during the anthem, many with hands over their hearts.
