SANTA CLARA, Calif. _ An energetic, ebullient and seemingly strong-armed Colin Kaepernick went through a full practice Monday, the first time he has done so since Aug. 10.
The quarterback threw short passes and deep passes next to Blaine Gabbert during the warm-up portion of practice. Reporters no longer have access to full session and leave the field after about 20 minutes. In the locker room afterward, Kaepernick said he went through a complete practice and that his arm felt normal.
When it was suggested that he looked happy to be fully participating again, Kaepernick smiled and said, "Very."
Said tight end Garrett Celek of the zip on Kaepernick's throws: "It seemed no different to me."
Kaepernick dealt with fatigue in his throwing arm earlier this month that prevented him from throwing in five practices sessions and kept him on the sideline for the team's two preseason games. Gabbert had received all of the first-team snaps since. He hasn't been spectacular in the preseason. But he's drawn praise from Chip Kelly for not throwing an interception and not giving up a sack.
"I thought our quarterbacks were very accurate," Kelly said of the most recent game against Denver. "We were 19-of-24 and did a nice job of not throwing a pick, so they're doing a good job from that standpoint. And, I thought we protected the quarterbacks by and large, for the most part."
Kelly has said the plan is for Kaepernick to get his first preseason action _ in fact, his first in-game snaps since Nov. 1 _ Friday against the Packers. He warmed up extensively before Saturday's game and suffered no residual effects from the session Sunday.
