Colin Farrell takes part in Brisbane marathon in Australia

Hollywood actor Colin Farrell had the Irish tricolour on his running top when he did the Brisbane Marathon in Australia.

The Dubliner crossed the finish line in a time of 03:53:14.

It is reported that it was the 45-year-old's first marathon.

Official results revealed that he came 222 out of 683 runners at the Botanical Gardens in Brisbane.

Australia's NCA NewsWire reported that Colin Farrell was asked by one of the MCs at the end of the marathon if he wanted to say a few words but he said: "Nah, I'm knackered."

Another marathon MC Pat Carroll said: "His security guard told me he'd only been running for three months in preparation, so it's not a bad effort… and he did finish running and he looked good as he came down the line.

The Irish star posed for pictures with fans at the finish line.

His running time of 3:53:14 is considering very impressive for a first go.

He is in Australia at the moment to make a film named Thirteen Lives, which tells of the 2018 Thai cave rescue.

The Irish actor joins a big-name ensemble cast that includes Viggo Mortensen and Joel Edgerton.

The movie will tell the story of the heroic rescuers who risked their own lives to mount the rescue operation that captured the imagination of people the world over.

One rescue diver lost his life in the lengthy and complicated rescue mission.

All of the boys and their coach were saved in a race against time before floodwaters reached the area in the caves where they were trapped.

Howard’s film is expected to focus on the enormous community and international effort that took place as locals, farmers and specialist cave divers gathered at the site.

The dangerous and stressful mission took eighteen days.

Farrell has been cast to play John Volanthen, a veteran care diver with experience in underwater rescue, who travelled to the Thai site from his home in Wales along with several other international experts.

He was later honoured with a George Medal for bravery.
