Colin Farrell spotted on Achill Island as filming continues on Martin McDonagh's latest movie

Actor Colin Farrell was spotted in Achill this week as filming continues on Martin McDonagh’s latest movie.

Farrell was seen outside the Islander Takeaway and Barretts XL store in Keel village on Achill Island.

The latest film from Martin McDonagh titled The Banshees of Inisheer began filming in August and will see McDonagh team up with his ‘In Bruges’ cohorts Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell for the brand-new movie.

The producer has been working on the story since the beginning of his career as a playwright.

McDonagh conceived the idea for The Banshees of Inisheer in 1994, before any of his other works had hit the stage.

In 2016, in an interview with The New Yorker, McDonagh said he had written seven plays within the year, all of which had been produced except one, The Banshees of Inisheer, as it wasn't "any good."

The film tells the tale of lifelong friends, played by Gleeson and Farrell, who have their friendship tested when one of them decides to cut ties with the other.

The film will explore day to day life in a rural community and the types of people that live there.

The Banshees of Inisheer was intended to be the third instalment in a series of McDonagh's plays, dubbed the 'Aran Islands Trilogy', which included The Cripple of Inishmaan and The Lieutenant of Inishmore.

The plays are loosely connected, all three being set in rural Ireland and all showcasing McDonagh's writing style of sordid humour and violence.

The director has always been interested in the Aran Islands as he used to spend summers there as a child and found that the isolation, water and sky were terrifying.

The setting makes for the perfect backdrop to McDonagh’s films allowing him to fully realise the dreary landscapes and scenery that struck fear into him as a child.

Actor Barry Keoghan also announced that he would also be making an appearance in the movie.

The actor has become the latest Irish acting star to join the cast as he shared a photograph of a script from the film with his name across it on social media in August.
