Colin Farrell reveals his sons are 'bored' by his Hollywood roles at Irish premiere of Dumbo

Colin Farrell admitted his kids are bored of his work, despite starring in one of Disney’s biggest remakes this year.

The Irish actor is currently starring as Holt Farrier in Disney’s new live-action version of Dumbo.

However, during a trip home this weekend for the Irish premiere screening in Dublin, he revealed that his kids, James, 15, and nine-year-old Henry are less than impressed by his Hollywood roles.

When asked if his boys were critical of his work, the Dublin born actor told The Irish Daily Mirror: “No, they are just bored of it really. Honestly.”

Despite his kids' lack of interest, the In Bruges star said he is proud to finally have a movie his kids can watch.

He said: “I didn’t do it for them but it is nice to know that I have done something that they can finally see.

“The youngest saw it and he liked it and James is yet to see it.”

Speaking on the red carpet at the Light House Cinema in Dublin on Sunday, the Castleknock native revealed he was enjoying some time back on Irish soil before he returns back to his base in LA.

Explaining why he doesn’t get home as much as he’d like, the 42-year-old said: “I travel so much with work, that when I’m not at work I’m at home with my family over in America.

“When I am at home, I just catch up with my mates, have plenty of cups of tea and chats and that kind of thing.”

Following the huge success of The Greatest Showman last year, Farrell, who plays a war veteran and former circus star in the Dumbo remake, said he feels no pressure to live up to the blockbuster hit.

He told: “No, not really I wouldn’t feel pressure from that. I just judge everything individual by itself.”

Likewise, commenting on the pressure to live up to the original version, he added: “No, that’s not where I live. I wouldn’t give it a second thought, I’m not even lying.

Liam Neeson claims horse in his upcoming film recognised him from another film

“It’s not that I don’t care about criticism, of course I do. But it is a story on a page and you know with a great filmmaker like Tim Burton you just want to do the best job you can.

“And this is probably maybe 30% a remake and 70% an original film because in the original there was no family drama, no human story or component to it.”

Despite his hilarious recounts of trying out for Boyzone in the early days of his career, the actor revealed he is leaving his days of singing in the past, for the sake of the movie.

He joked: “There is one song in it, Sharon sings it, Baby of Mine. But no, I wouldn’t sing in it. Why would I ruin a good film?”

Dumbo will hit Irish cinemas on March 29, 2019.
