Colin Farrell Batman: Dublin star unrecognisable as villain 'The Penguin'

This is Colin Farrell as you’ve never seen him before – practically unrecognisable as Batman villain The Penguin.

In the first footage from next year’s eagerly-awaited caped crusader movie, Farrell has been transformed into the famous baddie using prosthetics. He has also gained weight for the role.

It has also been revealed that Love/Hate star Barry Keoghan is to join the cast, which stars Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight and is shortly to resume filming in London.

He’ll play a leading Gotham City police officer in the big-screen epic.

Director Matt Reeves announced Keoghan’s involvement at a fan event in Los Angeles at the weekend.

Filming of the DC comics adventure in London was shut down in March as Covid-19 raged across Europe but is now set to resume in the coming days.

The movie is scheduled to be released worldwide in October 2021.

Keoghan is set to play leading character Officer Stanley Merkel in the movie.

The character has featured in the comic books as one of Gotham City’s top cops.

The inner city Dubliner's star quality is rapidly rising internationally, with Keoghan now set to star in two of the biggest comic-book movies to be released next year.

He has already been cast alongside Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek in Marvel movie The Eternals, which recently completed filming.

The Irish actor has built up his reputation internationally with roles in movies such as American Animals and The Killing of a Sacred Deer, in which he also starred with Farrell.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves revealed Keoghan was joining the cast of the movie as he showed the first clips of the hugely anticipated Batman reboot.

Robert Pattinson is playing the lead role in what has been described as an edgier and grittier take on the comic-book character.

Confirming Keoghan’s involvement, Reeves added that the movie is going to be set early in Batman’s stint as the dark knight.

“It’s early and Batman’s still a vigilante,” he told fans.

“He’s not yet the symbol of hope. He’s still a growing legend. People wonder whether he exists. It’s one of the things he will confront in the story.”
