The New Orleans Saints are used to being overlooked, but FOX Sports personality Colin Cowherd maybe exaggerated their underdog status in his latest top-10 list following the 2019 NFL Draft. When prompted to name the 10 best NFL teams going into the summer, Cowherd rattled off a list of teams including every conference championship game participant except the Saints, and three teams who missed the 2018 postseason altogether. His ranking:

9. San Francisco 49ers
8. Los Angeles Chargers
7. Kansas City Chiefs
6. Green Bay Packers
5. Pittsburgh Steelers
4. Philadelphia Eagles
3. Los Angeles Rams
2. Indianapolis Colts
1. New England Patriots
That oversight is egregious, and suggests Cowherd either didn’t do his research or is taking a serious break from what everyone else is thinking. The latest Super Bowl odds have the Saints tied with the Rams at 8/1 for third-best in the NFL, trailing the Patriots and Chiefs at 6/1. Maybe he just forgot that the Saints have won 26 of their last 36 games, including the postseason.
It wouldn’t be the first time Cowherd’s overlooked facts to take a dig at the Saints. In his reaction to the NFC championship game no-call, Cowherd lambasted a Saints secondary that allowed the fewest passing touchdowns in the NFC South: “The New Orleans Saints have really weak corners in a division with really good wide receivers. Don’t you think New Orleans could use a little leeway on the clutching and grabbing stuff? Because they have the weakest corners in their division, and that division has nothing but great receivers.”
Whatever Cowherd’s beef with the Saints is, it’ll be filed away until the season starts. Surely he’ll be eager to revisit this list once it’s time to be held accountable for outlandish offseason takes.
