Coleraine's next manager news as chairman updates fans on current position

Coleraine fans will have to wait a little bit longer before discovering who the club's new manager will be.

The Bannsiders have yet to make an appointment, some eight weeks after Rodney McAree parted company with the club.

Speculation continues to mount after former boss Oran Kearney left St Mirren last week.

Many supporters want to see Kearney return to the Showgrounds, and the 40-year-old is understood to be the club's number one target.

It is believed Kearney is spending some quality time with his family before deciding on his next move.

And Coleraine chairman Colin McKendry has revealed it may be another week before any announcement on the club's new manager is made.

“We are working hard to get things across the line,” McKendry told Coleraine's official website.

“We are currently negotiating and we hope to make an announcement shortly.

“Hopefully that’ll happen by this weekend, or early next week.”

Coleraine will play their first pre-season game of the summer this weekend when they travel to Scotland to face Stranraer.

McKendry insists the first-team has returned to training fully focused on the season ahead.

“After we parted company with our former manager, the situation was clear that the backroom staff would prepare the team for pre-season,” he added.

“They also arranged a pre pre-season for Alexander Gawne, Aaron Traynor, Aaron Burns and Lyndon Kane so that they can get rehabilitation programmes with Alan Millar and Chris Gregg.

“The players have came back fit, focused and have followed out instructions to the letter.

“As a group, they know they didn’t hit the heights of the year previous and they have a steely determination to do well and fight for their places."
