Coleraine midfielder Stephen Lowry highlights key reason for sloppy start to season

Coleraine midfielder Stephen Lowry has warned his team must stop conceding sloppy goals if they are to get into the title race.

The Bannsiders have lost their last two outings – against Linfield and Crusaders – and have fallen 12 points adrift of David Healy’s table toppers.

They have the chance to turn the tide against Larne at the Ballycastle Road Showgrounds today, but Lowry admits it will be a difficult task.

“We’ve had a mixed start to the season,” he admitted. “We played Linfield and Crusaders in the space of a week and both games were really tight.

“But we’ve conceded really poor goals, so as a team, it's something we must rectify.”

Although Glentoran are still looking for their first league win of the season, manager Mick McDermott is convinced his boys can still mount a title challenge.

Having conceded a last gasp equaliser in Tuesday night’s thriller against Linfield, the Glens will look to put things right when they face Dungannon Swifts at The Oval today.

“I thought we deserved all three points in midweek, based on our second half performance,” said McDermott.

“I know what we have at this club and the quality we have. I’ve no doubt we’ll be up there challenging in weeks to come.”
