Coleraine Football Club announces overhaul of youth development set-up

Coleraine Football Club is set to overhaul its youth development set-up including the appointment of a new Junior Academy Director.

The Bannsiders want to provide a clear pathway from the club's junior ranks to Oran Kearney's senior team.

The restructuring follows a presentation Kearney gave to Coleraine's board of directors.

The Showgrounds club have now decided to "implement this vision" and progress the plans.

Coleraine Chairman Colin McKendry told the club's website: “Oran gave a presentation to the Board of Directors of his vision for the restructuring of the youth set-up at the club, to include a new Junior Academy Director Role and clear progression pathways from the Soccer School to the Senior Team.

“The Board decided to implement this vision and invited Mr Nevin Oliver and Mr Maurice Bradley to facilitate the consultation and to bring forward the recommendations for the Board to approve.

"I would like to place on record the appreciation and thanks of the Board of Directors for their endeavours in delivering this vision.

“Part of this restructuring included inviting Bertie Peacock Youth to join the club and I am pleased they agreed to do so.

"We are now in the process of implementing these proposals and a small committee has been set up to progress the recommendations."

McKendry added: “Next week we will be meeting with all coaches of every team to commence the registration process for the boys and girls, ensure training schedules are sorted and Covid 19 Protocols are in place.

"It is also planned to host information evenings for all parents to allay any concerns they may have over this new structure."

The club has shared its pathway documents to coaches and members of the public to ensure "transparency and to avoid any misunderstanding".

McKendry added: “This is an exciting time for the youth footballers at Coleraine FC and the restructuring will ensure a clear identifiable pathway for progression at the club.

"It is the start of a new era in youth football at Coleraine FC and one which we believe will put us at the forefront of youth football in Northern Ireland.”
