Coleraine announce they have parted company with Rodney McAree

Coleraine have parted company with manager Rodney McAree.

The Showgrounds club announced on Friday night that the 44-year-old had left by mutual consent.

McAree was appointed back in September after Oran Kearney's departure to St Mirren.

In a brief statement posted on the club's official website, it read: "Coleraine Football Club have today parted company with manager Rodney McAree by mutual consent.

Coleraine assistant manager William Murphy hits out at standard of refereeing following playoff defeat

"McAree leaves the Showgrounds with immediate effect.

"The Board of Directors would like to place on record their thanks to Rod for the efforts and commitment he has made since his appointment and wish him well for the future.

"The club will now begin the process of recruiting a new manager. No further comment will be made at this time.  A further statement will follow in due course."

Coleraine endured an inconsistent season that saw them finish sixth in the Danske Bank Premiership and reach the semi-finals of the Irish Cup.

McAree's reign wasn't helped by the departures of key players including Brad Lyons, Ciaron Harkin and Darren McCauley.

They also lost out on a potential cash windfall with Tuesday night's Europa League playoff defeat to Cliftonville.

Leading 3-1 with 14 minutes left, Coleraine conceded two goals - including an injury time penalty - before going down 5-3 after extra time.
