Coleraine 0 Glentoran 2: Donnellys at the double as Ovalmen go joint-top with Linfield

A Donnelly double at Coleraine helped fire Glentoran level on points with leaders Linfield at the top of the Danske Bank Premiership.

Jay Donnelly’s 19th goal of the season complemented older sibling Ruaidhri’s opener in tonight's 2-0 win over Oran Kearney’s Bannsiders at the Showgrounds.

Victory made it 13 league games unbeaten for Mick McDermott’s men whose last top-flight defeat was a 3-0 loss to rivals Linfield on September 28.

Since then the Glens have won 10 and drawn three, taking 33 points from a possible 39 to propel themselves into title contention at the league summit.

Only goal difference separates the Ovalmen and David Healy’s table-topping Blues heading into Monday’s eagerly-awaited Big Two derby at Windsor Park.

Ruaidhri Donnelly opened the scoring less than five minutes in when he rose to head home a Shay McCartan corner for his third goal of the season.

And brother Jay made it 2-0 with the simplest of finishes in the 62nd minute, tapping home from close range after a run and cross from Conor McMenamin.

Coleraine, now without a league win in five outings, created chances of their own, but Caolan Marron denied Patrick Kelly a certain equaliser with a last ditch tackle inside the penalty area and Aaron McCarey- also saved to deny Lyndon Kane.

Jamie Glackin swept a late effort wide of the target, before Jay Donnelly went close to adding a third for the Glens at the death.
