Coleg y Cwmoedd in Nantgarw searched by police as teaching stopped due to 'incident'

A college campus was temporarily closed as police carried out a search of the building.

A statement from Coleg y Cymoedd said an "incident" occurred at its Nantgarw campus on Wednesday morning that meant police had to search the building.

Reports from the scene said that armed police officers were called to the site, and the college was evacuated.

Staff and students were allowed back after the searches were carried out.

In a statement, the college said: "The campus was temporarily closed while this took place and police are satisfied that the situation has now been resolved.

"We are very grateful for the prompt action taken by the police.

"Teaching has now resumed and we would like to reassure our college community that all learners and staff on site are safe."
