Coleen Rooney set to sign £1million deal for Wagatha Christie film about Rebekah Vardy row

Coleen Rooney is set to sign a £1million deal to make a film about her "Wagatha Christie" battle with Rebekah Vardy.

Coleen, 35, is being sued for libel by Rebekah, 39, over accusations that her former friend leaked stories from her private Instagram account to newspapers.

The film will document all of Coleen's evidence against Rebekah in order to "let the public make their own minds up", reports the Mirror.

Filming may start in the New Year before the libel trial takes place in the High Court which is due to start in the summer.

According to Coleen's friends, she would be "front and centre" of the film.

The movie could be streamed on Netflix or Amazon as producers Lorton Entertainment - who is also making her husband Wayne's documentary - is in "very advanced talks."

The row between Coleen and Rebekah, wife of Leicester striker Jamie, began in October 2019 when Coleen posted her accusations regarding the leaks.

A friend of Coleen told the Mirror: “Coleen has remained quiet ever since that famous online post. But this could all change in what could be the TV event of the year.

“Viewers would see all the evidence that Coleen has forensically gathered via her online sleuthing and see why she is convinced that Rebekah leaked the stories about her and others.

"She is minded to get it all out into the public domain and let people make their own minds up. Talks are very well advanced.”

While Coleen tends to avoid being in the limelight, the TV deal could mark a drastic change in strategy.

The friend said: “Coleen is thinking long and hard about her next steps and the time could be right to stick her head above the parapet.

“She feels she has a very strong case and wants to share it with the world.”

The live case could cost the loser millions of pounds.

Coleen's lawyer says her legal bill will be £537,000 while Rebekah's is estimated to be £838,000.

A friend of Coleen stated that any move on TV would "undoubtedly" be seen as a "hostile act" by Rebekah's side ahead of the trial.

The friend added: "There is no doubt that Coleen is upping the stakes and then some, and it will be interesting to see how Rebekah reacts. But Coleen is on a mission and is passionate about what she believes in.”

The judge in the libel case has repeatedly urged both women to come to a resolution in order to avoid a full court case.

But both are refusing to back down - the trial next summer will run over several days.

It's not clear yet whether the film will be shown before, during, or after the case.

Coleen has shown her newfound willingness to be on film after starring in a trailer for Lorton's documentary Rooney which will be streamed on Amazon Prime.

In the clip, she acknowledged her marriage to former England and Manchester United star had issues - the footballer had been accused of infidelity and drinking.

She said: “I forgive him, but it wasn’t acceptable.”

A spokesman for Coleen Rooney could not be reached for comment.
