Coleen Nolan says she divorced husband Ray Fensome over fears she'd die of cancer

Coleen Nolan has revealed that she divorced husband Ray Fensome over her fear of dying from cancer.

The Loose Women star has had a tragic family history with the disease.

She lost her sister Bernie to cancer and her siblings Linda and Anne have both been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Coleen said the fear of being diagnosed herself made her reevaluate her life, and led to the end of her 11-year marriage to guitarist Ray.

The 54-year-old told The Sun : "Bernie dying was a massive wake-up call for me. Her death changed me and my thought process about life too. When someone so close to you dies, you do think of your own mortality.

"It made me think, 'oh god am I happy?'. I knew I needed to change things. Bernie didn't have that choice."

Coleen said she's accepted that the probability of her battling cancer is high, but that she tries not to get too "paranoid" about it.

She added: "Yes, I could get cancer, but I'm just going to try to enjoy life as much as possible and not get hung up on relationships or marriages not working. I'm still alive. Life really is too short."

Coleen, who stripped off last year on ITV's The Real Full Monty to raise awareness of breast cancer, went on to say that she's much happier now that she's single.

She said she enjoys not having to answer to anyone anymore and having her own independence, saying it's given her a "whole new zet for life".

Coleen is now starring in an all-female stage show, The Thunder Girls, alongside Mina Anwar and Beverley Callard.
