Cole Waterhouse reveals plans for residential scheme on newly-acquired Salford Quays site

Manchester-based development and investment firm Cole Waterhouse has announced its acquisition of The Anchorage in Salford Quays.

Indigo Planning - part of the wider project team - has submitted an application to Salford City Council to turn the site into a 290-unit residential scheme.

The scheme’s plan, designed by architects Chapman Taylor, is for an L-shaped building with up to 29 storeys with one, two and three-bed apartments and amenity space, if it's given the green light.

A vacant 20,635 sq ft office building currently occupies the site, which was home to Barclays before it relocated 18 months ago.

Cole Waterhouse CEO Damian Flood said the firm hopes to receive a decision from the council before the end of 2019, with the view to start work in 2020.

He said: “This site is extremely well located, occupying a prominent position between MediaCityUK, Exchange Quay and Trafford Park, and bringing this site back into use will help further regenerate this area of Salford Quays.”

The firm is currently on site at No.1 Old Trafford, a 214,000 sq ft residential scheme scheduled for completion in early 2021.

Mr Flood said: “Our scheme at No.1 Old Trafford has received a huge level of interest, and we believe there is a latent demand for high-quality homes in this location at the right price point.”

Chapman Taylor director Michael Swiszczowski added: “Anchorage Gateway will be a distinctive, high-quality and visually attractive focal point at the entrance to Salford Quays.

“Our vision is to create the basis for a sustainable and vibrant residential community which enhances the area socially and economically while helping to provide much-needed, high-quality residential space in the city.”

Structural engineers Renaissance, M&E contractors Novo, landscape architects Exterior Architecture and project managers and quantity surveyors Henry Riley are also part of the wider project team.

Allsop is advising Cole Waterhouse with JLL acting on behalf of the vendor.
