Cole Palmer ‘set’ to leave Man City on loan and more transfer rumours

Cole Palmer is expected to be loaned out from Manchester City this summer, according to reports.

The 21-year-old played 25 games during this Treble-winning season, but started only seven times. And both of his Premier League starts came after City had clinched the title.

The Daily Mail says there has been ‘disappointment’ within the club that Palmer has not progressed as quickly as they would have liked and so are hoping regular action away from the Etihad will re-trigger an upward trajectory.

Speaking about his campaign in March, Palmer said: "The season has been tough, I’m not going to lie. When I’ve played this season, I don’t think I’ve played to the ability I could have. I don’t really have any complaints to be honest.

"Maybe I was putting too much pressure on myself, that when I did get the opportunity thinking, 'right, I’ve got to do something here' so I can have a chance of staying in the team. It’s been frustrating but I’m not one to stop. The coaches believe in me and they’ve told me that. It’s up to me to prove my ability."

Palmer has played 38 senior games and scored four goals, although only one came this season. The attacker has been named in England’s Under-21 squad for this summer’s U21 European Championships, having already scored three times in six caps at that level.

Meanwhile, the Mail also report that City will reject any loan offers for James McAtee after a brilliant season at Sheffield United. The 20-year-old midfielder played 43 times in the Blades’ promotion campaign, scoring nine times and assisting four more.

He is apparently due to start the season with the senior squad and develop his game among the senior stars despite Sheffield United’s keenness to facilitate a return for him. McAtee is in line for a new contract too, the report adds.
