The Cole family laid down the law to the bushfire that invaded west of Batehaven on New Year's Eve.
Jess Cole is super relieved to have her parents safe and sound and super proud they saved not only their own home, but neighbouring properties in Law Lane.
She's refusing to take much credit herself, even though she helped parents Ann and Gordon in the battle west of George Bass Drive, armed with hoses and a pump.
"Dad had a fire pump which we put in the pool," she said.
"They are champions."
The held off the fire from one direction, but "when the southerly hit it was coming directly at the house".

"Dad got the pump out of the pool and carried it to the water tank," Jess said.
"We grabbed a wheelbarrow and put a paver on top it and climbed up on that and threw the pump in.
"That action saved us."
The pump was horribly heavy and hoses had to be run through the house.
"I'm just really proud of them," Jess said.
"They also helped save the neighbours' place, who were away on holidays in Adelaide.
"Everything is just demolished around it."

She said an air-drop of pink retardant on her parents' shed and on a neighbouring place was "a God-send".
"It probably saved the entire property; if the shed had gone up, so would the house," she said.
Reluctant as she is to take credit, Jess admits to putting out with a hose spot fires that raced to a neighbour's window.
"They were away and had four little boys. It was at their door. It was good to save it," she said.
The blaze swept through from Mogo to the back of Batehaven, Catalina, Surf Beach, Malua Bay, Broulee and other coastal suburbs.
It claimed numerous homes and businesses and the pictures in Ms Cole's gallery show how close it came to claiming that of her parents.
