Coldplay frontman Chris Martin's 'kisscam' captures marriage proposal at Wembley

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin’s ‘kisscam’ sent pulses racing in Wembley last night as he captured a marriage proposal between two fans - as crowds roared in the stadium.

Martin’s kisscam is a light-hearted interval in the middle of Coldplay concerts, which captures impromptu moments of fans enjoying themselves.

The kisscam sent the internet into overdrive last month at a Coldplay concert at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts, when the camera zoomed in on married Astronomer CEO Andy Byron with his arms around another woman - later found to be the firm's Chief People Officer Kristin Cabot.

The pair’s horrified reactions to being caught on camera went viral and became a talking point online, with both leaving their roles at Astronomer.

As Coldplay played the first of an unprecedented 10-night run at Wembley on Saturday night, Martin appeared to poke fun at the controversy as the kisscam made its welcome return.

The camera focused on a man holding up a sign which read “I want to propose to her”, with a finger pointing downwards towards his girlfriend standing in front of him.

Honing in on the couple, Martin quipped: “My brother, I need you to know, because I do some very basic security checks, okay? Is this person your partner?”

Hoots of laughter rang out in the stadium, as the man nodded yes.

Martin went on: “It’s his partner, okay. Are you cousins or siblings or anything weird like that? Okay, no. Are you AI? Are you real people?

There was yet more laughter as the man nodded no to each of the Coldplay frontman’s questions.

“Okay, I think we can continue,” he joked, before singing a soliloquy: “My beautiful brother, here is some advice for free. As we all look on, and see you go down, I advise you to get down on one knee.”

The audience erupted as the man followed through with Martin’s suggestion and got down in front of his overwhelmed girlfriend, who held her hands over her mouth as he held a ring before her.

She then appeared to say yes and kiss her partner, as more cheers rang out in the stadium.

Martin finished his singing in rhyming couplets: “Congratulations my brother and my sister, what a beautiful girl, what a wonderful guy!

“On a day like this, I encourage you to kiss, I hope you’re happy to the day that you die.”

Coldplay’s tenth studio album, Moon Music, is expected later this year, featuring collaborations with Burna Boy and Ayra Starr.

Meanwhile, Martin - who recently split from actress Dakota Johnson after eight years together - has hinted Coldplay will stop making new albums after their twelfth.

“Less is more,” he said in a recent interview, vowing to preserve quality over quantity. “And for some of our critics, even less would be even more.”
